Jose G. Sanchez lll
José Guadalupe Sánchez III is an interdisciplinary artist and educator born and raised in West Los Angeles. Rooted in self-reflexivity, his practice investigates the multilayered experiences of Brown social realities in Los Angeles, spanning past, present, and speculative futures. Through painting, performance, and socially engaged projects, Sánchez examines the structural nature of oppositional values, intelligences, and subjectivities—interrogating where and how they become validated or denied.
Sánchez’s work has been exhibited nationally from institutions to artist-run spaces including the Hudson River Museum, Torrance Art Museum, The Mistake Room, Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Human Resources Gallery, Chimaya Gallery, Official Welcome, Cerritos College Art Gallery, Glendale Community College Art Gallery, and UTA Artist Space. His practice has been featured alongside artists such as David Hammons, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, June Edmonds, and Henry Taylor, and has been supported by curators and arts organizations deeply embedded in Los Angeles’s cultural landscape.
