About the Event
In Master Pieces, Brigitte Briones reimagines familiar imagery through a distinctive language of geometry, color, and fragmentation. Faces, landscapes, and references to art history are broken into intricate planes and reconstructed into images that feel at once recognizable and entirely new.
The exhibition’s title plays with the traditional idea of the “masterpiece”—an object often associated with permanence, authority, and cultural reverence. Briones approaches this legacy with admiration, but also with humor and freedom. Iconic visual references are not treated as untouchable; instead, they become material for reinvention.
From a distance, her compositions appear immediate and representational. Up close, they dissolve into constellations of triangles, shifting colors, and abstract forms. This movement between recognition and fragmentation reflects the way images exist today: reproduced, cropped, filtered, transformed, and continuously reinterpreted.
Unexpected details and playful interventions disrupt the seriousness traditionally associated with great art, allowing humor, beauty, and curiosity to coexist with technical precision.
